Last month, news broke that the family of the late Cornelius Fredericks is suing Lakeside Academy and Sequel Youth and Family Services – the company that provided staff members to Lakeside Academy – citing negligence. The personal representative for the estate, Tenia Goshay, is represented by The Probate Pro.

On April 29, Cornelius, under the watch of Lakeside Academy, had been restrained by a staff member after he threw a sandwich. Video footage has surfaced, showing that the staff member had Cornelius’s chest pinned under the staff member for nearly ten minutes. It was then that Cornelius had gone into cardiac arrest. Cornelius passed away several days later on May 1. The Office of the Medical Examiner in Kalamazoo has ruled his death to be a result of “restraint asphyxia.”

“The death of Cornelius Fredericks is an awful and sad reminder of negligence that we don’t see until it’s too late” said Darren Findling, attorney at The Probate Pro. “We have the utmost faith that Cornelius and his family will have justice served for them.”

The Probate Pro will be involved with the estate of Cornelius, making sure that his family is supported in and out of the probate court. “Our goal is to make sure that the probate process goes as smoothly as possible,” Findling said. “We understand that probate is a tumultuous time of turmoil and transition. We plan to be there for Tenia and Cornelius’s family all the way through this.”
