WHERE I'VE BEEN
During my first few years of college, I worked for the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources in an effort to explore a higher level of employment while also spending time in nature. In 2014, I was hired as an outdoor educator for an international nonprofit that runs one of the largest summer camps in the Americas. During the summer months, I still work there on the weekends just for fun.
In the last year of my college career, I interned for the Genesee County Clerk. During this position, I had the opportunity to look into the inter-office dealings of a county-wide position. I was even given the task of reorganizing the grant-funded Personal Protection Order office, which is where I changed the paperwork process and restructured the forms. It was a very rewarding experience as my contribution assisted judges in receiving purposed orders earlier than they were receiving them before, which meant that people could get the protection they needed sooner.
WHO I AM
I am new to the Metro Detroit area. I grew up in southern Genesee County in a city with much more of a small-town feel. As a University of Michigan Flint student, I spent a lot of time volunteering and fundraising with different organizations affiliated with the university.
There seems to be an office-wide disagreement on my nickname. Because of this, I respond to Dan, Wiki, Larry, and Eugene, all in addition to my actual name. When not working, you can find me spending time outside enjoying the many wonderful outdoor activities that Michigan offers. In the winter, I often spend time at local microbreweries taste testing the season’s newest flavors. On other weekends, I enjoy snowboarding and skiing. Summertime usually involves hiking, camping and, in the recent years, rock climbing. Summer also fuels my passion for sailing, so I also try to spend quite a few days on Michigan’s many lakes. Once in a great while I will spend some time reading classical writings from political and law theorists (yes, these are often the books that kids complain about being forced to read in high school and college).
