The Probate Pro has the great privilege of appearing before the probate courts throughout the state of Michigan.  One of the most enjoyable courts to practice in is the Macomb County Probate Court. It is staffed by friendly and experienced personnel. Our Michigan probate attorney’s have extensive experience handling Macomb County Probate and Trust cases.

It is important to note that the probate court moved to a new location in May 2019.  So, if you’ve been to the old location on the other side of the city, please update your records. The new address consolidates the locations of the circuit and probate courts. The address is 40 North Main St., Mount Clemens, MI 48043.

Macomb County Probate Court Judges

The Macomb County Probate Court is staffed by three experienced and knowledgeable judges that understand probate law.

  • The Honorable James M. Biernat, Jr. is the Chief Probate Judge. He is a graduate of Hillsdale College and received his law degree from University of Detroit Law School.
  • The Honorable Kathryn A. George was elected to the Macomb County Probate Court in November of 2002.
  • The Honorable Sandra Harrison-Suratt was elected to the Macomb County Probate Court for the six year term beginning January 1, 2013. She is a graduate from the University of Michigan in 1993 and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1997.
Macomb County Probate Court Divisions

The Macomb County Probate Court is divided into two operational groups: the Wills & Estates Division and the Mental Division. The Wills & Estates Division is responsible for matters involving guardianships and conservatorships of both adults and minors, for estates of deceased persons, and for matters involving trusts. The Mental Division handles matters relating to involuntary commitments for psychiatric treatment and guardianships of individuals with a developmental disability.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  The probate court is closed during most major holidays.

Security Requirements

An important consideration before entering the courthouse are the security requirements. You will be subject to building security before you enter the court and must pass through a medical detector. The specific items being banned often changes however, cellphones with a camera and weapons are always banned. For many probate related issues, there is no need to venture all of the way to the courthouse.  You can do it from the warm, cozy confines of your home. The probate court has a terrific website.
